How do I set up my BMO DepositEdge scanner on Mac?
If you enrolled in the DepositEdge service before March 6, 2026 and you haven't had a service upgrade since that date, please follow this link to find the right steps.
To use DepositEdge on your Mac, you need to use a Panini scanner. To rent a new scanner directly from us, please speak to your BMO representative.
If you have administrator rights on a Mac computer, you can install and register your Panini scanner with BMO DepositEdge. Here’s how:
Step 1: Connecting your scanner
Power on your scanner and connect it to your computer. Note: If you’re setting up a Panini mI:Deal scanner, lift both blue flaps.
Step 2: Making sure your Mac is connected to the scanner
On your Mac computer, open System Settings. Note: Depending on which version of the Mac operating system you’re using, this may be called “System Preferences”.
Select Network.
When asked if you want the scanner to connect, select Allow.
From the “Network” screen, look for the scanner with a “Connected” status. Note: In this example, the user can see a Panini mI:Deal model scanner:
Note: If you can’t see the scanner here, or it’s showing any status other than “Connected”, please double check your scanner’s USB and power cable.
Step 3: Finding the IP address for your scanner
From the “Network” screen, select your scanner name. Your scanner’s IP address will be listed in the “DNS Servers” field.
Step 4: Entering your scanner’s IP address into a browser
Open a browser window and enter your scanner’s IP into the address bar. Note: Include “https://” at the beginning. For example, if your scanner’s IP is “123.456.7.8”, enter “https://123.456.7.8”. If the page doesn’t load, remove the “https://” or try “http://” instead.
You’ll land on the Panini scanner configuration page. This is what it looks like if you’re using a Panini mI:Deal:
Step 5: Download your scanner certificate
From the scanner configuration page, select Configuration.
Select the Connection Parameters Setup link.
Next to “USB Mode”, select RNDIS (TCP/IP over USB). Note: Ethernet checkbox should not be selected.
Select Next.
At the bottom of the “Connection Parameters” page, next to “HTTPS”, select Default certificate.
Make sure the “Device Name” field is populated. It will default to the scanner model, but you can enter any name that you want.
Select the Root CA Certificate Download (PEM Format) link.
The scanner certificate will download to your computer.
Step 6: Adding your scanner certificate
Now, let’s make sure your Mac trusts the scanner certificate, so you can use it to securely deposit cheques.
From your “Downloads” folder, double-click the scanner certificate you’ve just downloaded.
When prompted to add the certificate to a keychain, select Add.
In the “Keychain Access” section, the certificate will be displayed under the “Certificates” category. Right-click on Panini Certificate Authority and choose Get Info.
Expand the “Trust” section. Next to “When using this certificate”, set the dropdown to Always Trust.
Close the window.
When prompted, enter your Mac’s password and select Update Settings.
You’ve added the certificate to your Mac’s keychain, and it will show as being trusted for your account.
Please restart your scanner before completing the next step.
Step 7: Saving the scanner to your BMO DepositEdge profile
Now that your scanner is set up on your Mac, it's time to make sure the correct scanner is saved in your DepositEdge user profile.
In Online Banking for Business, select the Payments & Receivables tab.
Under “DepositEdge', select BMO DepositEdge.
In the DepositEdge platform, select your profile icon in the top-right of the screen.
Select User Profile.
In the “Scanner” field, confirm the correct scanner is assigned. Note:
If this field is blank, select your scanner from the dropdown list.
The “Scanner Host” field must match the scanner IP address you used to download your scanner certificate (see Step 3: Finding the IP address for your scanner above).
