How do I create an account for BMO Secure Email?
BMO Secure Email encrypts and protects your personal and confidential information. It also includes 2-step verification as an added layer of security.
Before you can use it, you’ll need to create an account. Here’s how:
- The first time your BMO representative sends you an encrypted email, you’ll also receive a regular email with the subject line ‘Your BMO Secure Email Activation Information’. This email will contain a link to create your BMO Secure Email account. The link will expire after 90 days.
- Within the email, select the Click here to create your account and read your message link to get started.
- Sign in with your Google, Microsoft 365 or Live account, or register manually by completing the form.
- You’ll then be asked to select a method of 2-step verification.
- Follow the prompts to complete your account setup.
- Choose how you want to receive encrypted emails. There are 2 options: web messages and document encryption. Here are some of the features of each method:
| Web messages |
Document encryption |
- Log in once – no need to enter a password to open each attachment.
- Compose new emails within the portal.
- Email message history is maintained when using the ‘Reply’ function.
- Emails in the portal expire after 90 days. (Emails and attachments can be downloaded to local storage.)
|
- Messages are delivered directly to your preferred email application.
- Password is required to access your email and its attachments.
- Emails never expire.
- Email message history is not included in replies.
- Responses can be created by using a link within the encrypted attachment.

By default, you'll be set to receive encrypted emails as web messages. You can switch your method at any time. To do that, navigate to Settings and then Delivery Methods.
- After you complete the registration, you can visit https://protected.bmofg.com at any time to access the BMO Secure Email site. Set it as a bookmark or favourite for future reference.
