Can I turn on 2-step verification (secondary authentication) at Sign In?

As an administrator, you can better protect company accounts by enabling 2-step verification whenever your users sign in to Online Banking for Business.
Here’s how:

  1. In Online Banking for Business, select the Administration tab.
  2. Under “User Management”, choose Manage Users.
  3. Next to the relevant user, select Modify User from the dropdown menu.
  4. In the “Security Settings” section, you have the option to further secure the user’s sign in by checking Secondary Authentication required at Sign In.
Note: If you leave this unchecked, the user will still need to use secondary authentication when making or approving a payment.
  5. Click Save Changes.

When prompted, confirm your identity with your preferred 2-step verification option. What is 2-step verification (secondary authentication)?

If you are a Primary Customer Administrator (PCA) and want to add 2-step verification to your own sign in, please contact your BMO representative.
